Dear NZ Herald - it's time to retire Paul Holmes

Dear NZ Herald.

How are you? Now I appreciate you and I never really see eye to eye on any issue. There was the whole appointing National Party propagandist and pollster David Farrar as a 'political commentator' minus any left wing balance whatsoever (Bryce Edwards who was paid by Farrar to put out his daily list of right wing bloggers he loves isn't 'balance'), there was you channeling Ronald McDonald to write a bullshit piece claiming obesity was parents fault and not fast food, there was your idiotic editorial on regional TV, and of course my constant use of the NZ Herald as the butt of any joke where the punchline involves laughing at right wing conservative opinion that's more akin to a Fox News definition of fair and balanced.

Let's be honest, I don't like you much and seeing as my letters to the editor never get printed any longer, I'm assuming the feeling is mutual.

That said, even enemies can agree on issues so glaring in their bigotry that everyone can accept the only way to proceed is an aggressive amputation. The latest column by Paul Holmes falls into that category.

Remember how you didn't get rid of George Garth before he started embarrassing himself? The same can be said of Holmes based on his race baiting hate speech against Maori that passed as a column in the last copy of the Weekend Herald.

Sweet Jesus, where to begin? How about a blow by blow rebuttal to this hateful little redneck cretin?

Waitangi Day produced its usual hatred, rudeness, and violence against a clearly elected Prime Minister from a group of hateful, hate-fuelled weirdos who seem to exist in a perfect world of benefit provision. This enables them to blissfully continue to believe that New Zealand is the centre of the world, no one has to have a job and the Treaty is all that matters.

The usual hatred, rudeness and violence exists because of a long history of white people stealing Maori land after a Treaty was signed guaranteeing that wouldn't happen. It is the history of that theft and the negative impacts of land confiscation that has entrenched Maori deep within poverty which is protested against, more so this year in the wake of the National Party deciding it wanted to dump the hardest fought for legal victory Maori ever gained, Section 9 of the SoE ACT. That Holmes can not comprehend any of this and must see it as only one sided hate by those bloody Maori's (which in itself is bullshit as MANY pakeha were there protesting alongside Maori) is simply too much ignorance for one paragraph. The PM by the way Holmes was not clearly elected, 68% of the enrolled electorate didn't vote for Key's agenda to privatize, and Holmes' assertion that those protesting are all on the benefit is just the usual redneck bigotry that once had Paul claiming Kofi Annan was a 'cheeky darkie'.

I'm over Waitangi Day. It is repugnant. It's a ghastly affair. As I lie in bed on Waitangi morning, I know that later that evening, the news will show us irrational Maori ghastliness with spitting, smugness, self-righteousness and the usual neurotic Maori politics, in which some bizarre new wrong we've never thought about will be lying on the table.

Paul like many elite white voices hates Waitangi Day because people like him never like to be reminded of injustice because those who have benefitted most from a structure of injustice never want to examine it and no one has benefitted from race baiting more than dear old Paul Holmes. For Paul to bitch about the images of conflict that the media which he is such a prominent member of flash up on Waitangi Day is rich. As for the smug self-righteous neurotic comments, surely Paul is projecting here?

This, we will have to address and somehow apply these never-defined principles of the Treaty of Waitangi because it is, apparently, the next big resentment. There'll be lengthy discussion, we'll end up paying the usual millions into the hands of the Maori aristocracy and God knows where it'll go from there.

I'm sorry, what? Maori had billions in assets stolen from them and Paul wants to begrudge the mere millions we hand back as 'compensation' for that theft? It's almost impossible for him to become more of an arsehole isn't it?

Well, it's a bullshit day, Waitangi. It's a day of lies. It is loony Maori fringe self-denial day. It's a day when everything is addressed, except the real stuff.

A bullshit day? The founding of our Nation is a bullshit day? The Treaty which sets out the power dynamic between Government and the people, that the Government is there to protect the rights of the citizens, that it's responsibility is to us, not us to it? This thing of beauty is a bullshit day? Is Paul off his meds?

Never mind the child stats, never mind the national truancy stats, never mind the hopeless failure of Maori to educate their children and stop them bashing their babies. No, it's all the Pakeha's fault. It's all about hating whitey. Believe me, that's what it looked like the other day.

I'm sorry, what? He's lecturing Maori on raising children? Isn't his kid a P freak? Isn't his fucking audacity jaw dropping? Besides the fact that poverty is the driving force behind abuse, he's managing to denigrate an entire race while claiming that is what they are doing by 'hating whitey'??? How the hell did this manage to get by the sub editor?

John Key speaks bravely about going there again. He should not go there again. It's over. Forget it. It is too awful and nasty and common. It is no more New Zealand day than Halloween.

John key brave? He's foaming now.

Our national day is now Anzac Day. Anzac Day is a day of honour, and struggle, bravery and sacrifice. A day on which we celebrate the periods when our country embraced great efforts for international freedom and on which we weep for those who served and for those who died.

We celebrate the way we get manipulated into bullshit wars by larger nations the way we've been manipulated into Afghanistan??? Paul wants us to 'celebrate' how easily manipulated we are? ANZAC Day is to commemorate the terrible loss war has wrecked upon us and it is an intergenerational promise to the next generation of our nation that we will never throw their lives away as pointlessly as we have in the past.

I wouldn't take my three great uncles who died at Gallipoli and in France - Reuben, Mathew and Leonard - to Waitangi Day and expect them to believe this was our national day. I wouldn't take my father, veteran of El Alamein and Cassino, there. Nor would I take my Uncle Ken who died in a Wellington bomber, then try and tell him Waitangi Day was anything but filth.

Open mouthed shock at his last comment. And just how the hell would all those Maori who died in those wars feel at that last comment you sanctimonious fuckwit?

No, if Maori want Waitangi Day for themselves, let them have it. Let them go and raid a bit more kai moana than they need for the big, and feed themselves silly, speak of the injustices heaped upon them by the greedy Pakeha and work out new ways of bamboozling the Pakeha to come up with a few more millions.

Paul Holmes is a fucking bigot and the only daily national newspaper in the country has a responsibility not to promote hate speech. You waited too late for George Garth because he was your friend and you didn't want to hurt his feelings, but friends don't let racist redneck bigot friends write columns, and you must cull Paul for his own good. I appreciate the ever important 65-90 year old racist demographic is a crucial part of your readership, but sometimes doing the right thing means making some big calls.

Dear NZ Herald, this is your big call and history will judge you far more harshly if you don't deal to Holmes now.

Well said, Bomber. It needs to be said and said again. I fear very few are hearing you though and even fewer actually getting it.

Not only is his kid a P freak, she's a MAORI P freak. The daughter of his Maori ex-wife. The grossness just went up a level.
