National led by ACT while Maori get told where to sit on the bus

Henare sticks to buffoon remarks
Tau Henare is refusing to apologise for labelling coalition ally Rodney Hide a "buffoon" and a "jerk-off" as tensions escalate over the Government's Auckland super-city plans. Prime Minister John Key issued only a mild rebuke to his errant MP a sign that Mr Hide's brinkmanship over the super-city proposal has ruffled feathers. Mr Key ruled out asking Mr Henare to apologise to Mr Hide and said he was parking it "as a minor backbench issue", though the comments were "unhelpful".

Dear Auckland

How are you, you big beautiful city you! I know a few if you got into that whole ‘change’ crap that National floated last year, and like good buggers at a beach cricket match, you asked Helen to hand the bat over after she had her 3 terms, and a large chunk of you didn’t even bother to vote. I understand, it all got a bit grotty last year with the right targeting Winston and Winston getting caught with his hand in the cookie jar (even though when it comes to donations from big business National own the kitchen). It all seemed yuck and that fresh faced aspirational multi-millionaire moderate PM looked like a great catch.

That was then, this is now. John isn’t the moderate he’s pretended to be, he is hard right and he’s led now by Rodney Hide from ACT, a political party that only got 4 votes in every hundred. ACT and National annexed Auckland by misusing urgency in Parliament meaning they rammed it through with zero consultation, and Rodney got to run Auckland with his handpicked 5 mates. Rodney threatens to resign if he didn’t get to denigrate Maori, and because John is Rodney’s girlfriend, the Nats backed ACT.

If you are Maori and you voted for the Maori Party and you are now being told where to sit on the bus by John and Rodney in your own city of Auckland, this must be a deeply disillusioned day. Where is the leadership from the Maori Party? You can’t be friends with National, hell have you seen any of the anonymous National posters on this site, they loath and hate you, sitting at their table hoping for some crumbs isn’t Mana enhancing, the Maori Party needs to walk away from National and hopefully it’s leadership will give the Greens the courage to walk away from their cosy little snuggle with National as well.

To Aucklanders, look at the manner in which National and ACT stole your city and imposed their racist point of view, Auckland you are the most cosmopolitan of NZs city’s, you like being a bit special, you enjoy being educated and progressive, having ACT and their poodle National molest your beautiful city for their own privatization aims must make many sweet Aucklanders choke on their soy lattes.

2011 counts Auckland, many of you didn’t vote last time and no matter how pretty Nikki Kaye is, her party and their racist, racist ways are an abomination that deserves no representation within our city limits.

Oh and wasn’t Henare on the mark calling Rodney a buffoon and Jerk off, now Tau has to be brave and refer to his PM as Rodney’s poodle.

Um Bomber, Labour was routed in several seats so we're getting what we asked for. Hardly stealing is it?

Tau "NZ First Party/ Maori Party/ National Party " Henare doesn't really have any respectability though does he bomber.

Sucks on the public teat, stopping to gorge long enough to demonstrate his aggression and boorishness.

So, what has Tau done to further the Maori cause?

Btw, why doesn't he fuck off back to the Maori Party, if he feels such aroha for them.

No that's not true, when people voted for National, did they know that National were going to annex Auckland with a misuse of urgency in Parliament?

Rodney stands by his principles.

Tau has eaten his.

Simple question that you moderated there bomber.

Do you think National won a democratic election, or do you think Labour won, and National rigged it?

Surely you can answer that?

OED:
Principle:
n 1. a fundamental truth or law as the basis of reasoning or action.
2. a personal code of conduct.

Nope.
Being racist isn't a principle.

Now Rodney's principles aren't the same as mine, but they are principles.

Tau sits on Nationals back bench, getting paid, complaining but not making a stand.

Tau has no principles.

Not at all anon

Are you drinking early anon? National STOLE Auckland via annexation by ramming legislation through Parliament by misusing urgency, what part of that is so difficult for you to understand anon? National DID NOT tell people they intended to do that before the election, your sad attempt to put words in my mouth (which should be moderated) to claim I'm suggesting National stole the election is desperate even for an anonymous troll. I'm saying National STOLE Auckland by annexing it through Parliament and that ACT have imposed their racist views.

OED:
Principle:
n 1. a fundamental truth or law as the basis of reasoning or action.
2. a personal code of conduct.

Nope.
Being racist isn't a principle.

Which must mean ACT have no principle on this seeing as it is a racist point of view they are expressing.

Again, Maori readers, look at the way our anonymous right wing friends hate you, even when Tau speaks the truth they attack Tau.

Nice try bomber but the polls suggest National and John Key are at record levels of popularity and they will have an increased majority at the next election. I don't know what planet you live on but the public don't believe that Auckland is "stolen" or that the PM is doing a bad job.

The people who want separate Maori seats are the real racists in this. Hide is saying, everyone should have an equal opportunity. That is not racist!

It is racist within the context of Maori representation in Auckland.

Maori are represented by getting 1 vote each, like the rest of us. Why do they deserve something different on the basis of race?

Horribly racist not to have race based seats favouring a particular minority while effectively disenfranchising other voters.

Surely it would be racist, ie favouring or discriminating against a particular race of people, if we did have exclusive seats set aside for Maori but no other race.

What rubbish, even if you choose to so narrowly define the context it still isn't racist as Maori still get to stand in the elections and vote in the elections.

If they didn't get rid of Maori then John Banks wouldn't be Super Mayor now would he?

Do you have to try hard to be this stupid?
No one is getting rid of anybody, Maori can stand in the elections and vote in the elections - no one is removing anybodies rights here There have never been special Maori seats on the council so nothing is being taken away, but you already knew that now didn't you lover?

Part of the puzzle is, its acknowledging that we're a bi-cultural country..not just European and Maori, but everyone and Maori, according to the Treaty.

And its one thing to say, "we're all equal so everyone has an equal chance of getting a representation",
but isnt the argument more, "yes of course we're all equal as individuals, but we're not being represented equally when it comes to representation."

So the allocated seats are ensuring that Maori are represented, which is in line with the Treaty. Let me know if thats not the case.

God that is a cyclacil (sic) argument.

I dont support seperate Maori representation for the Auckland council. I do for national politics. Am I racist for thinking that a regional area representation should be done on an equal / merit not race basis?

My reason for the difference is Auckland is an area of the greatest level of ethnic diversity NZ has. Asian, Pakeha, Indian, Maori, Pacific, it goes on. The idea of giving one group 'more power' over another on a regional level doesnt sit well. The special status which Maori have with the crown needs to be recognised, however I believe this is achieved at a national rather than regional level.

Call me all the names in the sun, but this is what I, and I believe the majority of people would expect.

Great point Paul:

Denying Maori representation on the Auckland Super City (after National and ACT annexed the city by misusing urgency) is manifestly racist as the system denys them of any voice, when was the last Maori elected to the Auckland City council? In 150 years they've had 8 - 8 GOD DAMMIT! And this is the system so many of my garden vairty bogot NZers want to hold up and claim is represenataive - 8 in 150 years? And this is after Maori have had Auckland land they gifted to NZ taken from them, divided up and sold from under tham. To deny them representation after the land they gifted was stolen in such an underhand manner suggests those making the decisions or those supporting it have not a fucking clue about history in Auckland.

It's a sick sad day for NZ.

Not being Maori or an Aucklander, I am fairly relaxed about all this. The SuperCity is long overdue. But the last couple of weeks has shown John Key to be one of the smoothest political operators we have seen in NZ for many years. He has left the Maori Party gobsmacked with the Council seats issue, and reduced Sharples and Turia to helpless muttering! Now look out for the F&S legislation. No govt will grant freehold title to this, least of all when Winston gets cranked up, so the Maori Party may as well enjoy those big salaries and limos while they can. And unless the opposition get to work really hard and really soon, an increased National majority will see them governing alone from 2011. Good luck, guys!

Seriously bomber, what the fuck does this even mean?

Are Iwi/Maori prevented from putting up thier own candidates?

No.

true, good point!
tho that assumes there is a level playing field to start with..which i'd suggest bomber thinks there isnt.....

Um is this the same party that is currently reviewing the Foreshore and Seabed Act?

If they were racist wouldn't they be supporting it?

This kind of extremist diatribe does not one any good

I think you need to come down to earth. What is more important to Maori, a couple of seats which they may be able to win anyway or the return to cultural and economically important lands. If Labour were still in power what are the odds of this happening: nil.
