Nats to privatise prisons

Nats would revisit private prison management
LATEST: A National-led government would once again give private companies the chance to manage prisons, party leader John Key said today. Mr Key released National's prisons policy in Christchurch today. Mr Key said National would also allow the private sector to tender for the management of prisons on a case-by-case basis. Auckland Central Remand Prison was privately run under the last National government, but Labour overturned this following the 1999 election.

Just as we predicted on SNR and on Tumeke, the Nats plan to allow private prison corporations back into the country under their ‘throw everyone in prison’ policy. This despicable abortion of vested interests that see corporate profits made from longer and longer prison sentences is one that America has writhed painfully with and National want to introduce it like an ebola virus into the currently weakened and funding starved public prison system. Private companies have no right to hold a citizen against their will, only the Government has that right, and to give private companies that power without so much as a second thought of the consequences such short term solution thinking is creating is the final nail in the coffin I had towards National being intellectually sound. Private Prisons are an abomination and any Political Party who swallow the line that the ultra funded show room style Remand Prison that was used as a con job last time will be what we eventually end up with simply suggests that Political Party are 100% ignorant of what the overseas examples show us.

What a great jump backwards.

Oh fuck off, you have never - at any point - given them the time of day so lets stop with the pretence this is the final nail in any coffin, it is merely one nail out of a whole boxful that you have tried to drive into what you hope is Nationals chances this time around.

And if being "intellectually sound" was anything to be worried about, you wouldn't have been fervently nut-hugging Labour like you have in recent months.

And if they take on board Act's three strike policy those companies will make great profits. The three strikes policy has got them putting prisoners in wharehouses in the U.S. Is that Nat/Act's vision of NZ? Not really a police state, more of a prison state.

Are they planning an IPO?

I want to get in on this. Imagine exploiting the untapped potential of all that labour!

Why don't we ask tim about prison?

I certainly haven't nor plan to be a guest of her majesty.

I'm sure tim would have something add on prison luxaries.

Simply not true, I thought their bonding program for medical students was a a very good idea, I think John Key could create a unique new dynamic if he works with the Maori Party in a way that could transform NZ.

Again Anon, for the 10millionth time, I - DON'T - V OTE - LABOUR! They jailed my mate for sedition, jailed another mate of mine, Ahmed Zaoui in solitary for 10months on tumped up charges and they stole Maori land. I don't vote for labour. Get it?

I never said you did, but you spend plenty of time telling us that Labour have been the most successful government etc etc it is pretty bloody obvious that you are throwing your weight behind Labour because you know you beloved greens will never get close to real power and you are terrified of a National led govt.

The funny thing is even when there is a labour govnt the STILL don't get close to power.

Maybe bomber has low expectations.

Right so even though I don't vote Labour and that they arrested my mate for sedition, threw another mate of mine Ahmed Zaoui in prison and stole Maori land, all things I've been very vocal about, I'm a labour party nut hugger as you put it - your desperate need to write my opinions off as Labour Party PR notes is just a farce.

No, that's called agreeing with their policies over and above the privatisation madness of King John. I read the policy Anon and base my judgement on that.
