The Sunday News Roast

On the Sunday News Roast tonight at 7pm, Sky Digital 65, Alt Tvs News and weekend newspaper critique show that is Unfair & Unbalanced, THE SPIN STARTS HERE with the best political news team on television, Bomber from Alt, Ben Thomas, Political Editor of the NBR and the last man to be convicted of sedition in NZ, blogger Tim Selwyn.

News that caught my eye
1: Phil Goff and the Budget:
Damien Christie – a blogger on Public Address whom I have never liked, I think he is bland and mediocre and the banal crap he writes on Public Address and is only there because he is a greasy sycophant whose always out licking the nipples of influence – I think he’s as useful as a circumcised foreskin – this Damien Christie comes out and attacks Alt Tv current affairs as pointless in the same week as Alt is all over the news with our Phil Goff interview that was covered by all news networks as their lead story on Tuesday – I think Phil Goff would make an excellent Prime Minister and when you have an electorate calling for change, what better way to satisfy that than with a change of leadership – as I believe a National win will be very damaging to the country and as such all ideas to counter their win should be on the table. National are trying to cruise to victory without revealing any policy (look at how Bill English refused to answer any questions with Guyon on Agenda last week), my fear is that National will waltz to victory on a wave of hip pocket pain rather than disciples of the National Party manifesto and declare a radical right wing agenda as mandate – look to Roger Douglas being there and National’s desire to dump MMP for a system that is less democratic and favours the elite as hollow man evidence of Nationals true intent – but pushing Phil as a Helen replacement has pulled back for me because of the Budget and watching Helen and John’s performance in the media this week – the first chance we’ve seen Helen and John face off and Helen’s performance crucified John Key’s refusal again to show what actual policy he’s going to implement – did Cullens budget snooker National? Can National afford to make bigger tax cuts and threaten interest rates?

2: Presidential sacrifice
President Bush has given up playing Golf to honour the American’s who have died in Iraq……..ummmm, how can one respond to this?

3: Vast cracks appear in the Arctic (from the global warming is a hoax file)
Dramatic evidence of the break-up of the Arctic ice-cap has emerged from research during an expedition by the Canadian military. Scientists travelling with the troops found major new fractures during an assessment of the state of giant ice shelves in Canada's far north. The team found a network of cracks that stretched for more than 10 miles (16km) on Ward Hunt, the area's largest shelf. The fate of the vast ice blocks is seen as a key indicator of climate change. One of the expedition's scientists, Derek Mueller of Trent University, Ontario, told me: "I was astonished to see these new cracks. "It means the ice shelf is disintegrating, the pieces are pinned together like a jigsaw but could float away," Dr Mueller explained.

4: Burn down Bro Town
Pacific migrants 'drain on economy'
Pacific Islanders' crime rates, poor education and low employment are creating an underclass and a drain on the economy, a study says. Economist Greg Clydesdale, of Massey University's management and international business department, warns that Polynesians display "significant and enduring under-achievement" - a problem immigration is making worse.
I listened to Clydesdale whine all week that Political Correctness had gone mad and was stifling debate and that they were calling him racist – his conclusions border on the pure a bit too much for me, doesn’t it really show that investment into those communities has been poor for a long time and that is the solution rather than dawn raids?

5: Iraqi forces load up on U.S. arms
Iraq is becoming one of the largest customers for U.S. arms, as the country turns from Soviet-bloc weapons to pricier but more sophisticated American weapons. Iraq's government has committed nearly $3 billion for U.S. weapons and equipment over the past year.
America invades Iraq based on a pack of lies manufactured from post 9/11 anger, fuelled by Fox News flag waving propaganda and now sells that country $3 Billion in weapons – we live in a post irony culture.

In the Weekend Newspapers
STORY 1 - Brain specialist on Kahui jury - sst
A DOCTOR with specialist knowledge of brain injuries was on the Chris Kahui murder jury, one of Kahui's lawyers has revealed. "Both the Crown and defence dealt with the medical evidence the way they did because he was there," said defence lawyer Michele Wilkinson-Smith. Kahui was acquitted of the murders of his twin babies Chris and Cru after the jury deliberated for just 10 minutes.
First up, in every way sense and shape the SST’s coverage of the Kahui case today is head and shoulders above the tripe that the Herald on Sunday printed, another deep day of shame for those who work at the HOS – for crying out loud the HOS sides with Macsyne in a dribbling piece by that awful Stephen Cook that sucks up to her!
To the story itself, when this case broke, the media went into Baily Junior hysteria mode and crucified Chris Kahui, yet the evidence was so questionable and indeed is now being complained about in regards to the Police holding back confession evidence and evidence that showed Macsyne was in the area when the babies were hurt. At the time of the deaths there were a spate of murders, the Police were over stretched and it seems the B team was put in charge because despite all the evidence pointing at Macsyne, the Police took the medical testimony at face value and went after Chris. But from day one of the Defence case, you could see the Prosecution squirming when the Defence medical testimony brought the Prosecutions testimony into serious question, then add all the other factors and we get reasonable doubt established very quickly, so quickly it only took the Jury 10minutes. What really angers me is that Labour Party hacks are using this poorly executed – to the point of negligence – police prosecution as a chance to generate debate changing the right of silence – unbelievable! You can take my right of silence from cold dead lips Mr Palmer!

STORY 2 – What the public didn't hear about the death of Charlene Makaza - sst
CHARLENE MAKAZA went into hospital as a victim of HIV. By the time she died 18 hours later, doctors had decided she was a victim of murder.
Their testimony in the High Court at Christchurch over the past month that the 10-year-old Zimbabwean girl had suffered atrocious genital injuries and been suffocated in a sexual assault could have seen an innocent man jailed for life.
Wednesday's acquittal of Charlene's uncle, vet George Gwaze, 56, on murder and sex charges would have surprised many. But that is because the public has been misinformed about Charlene's case since she died on January 7 last year.
This is what police told the media in the days following the death:
* Charlene did not die by accident or natural causes.
* There was no evidence she was sick or ill.
* Charlene had been suffocated.
* Charlene was found in her bed having difficulty breathing.
* Her family washed her bedding and clothing after she was the victim of a "horrific" sexual assault.
* Police had been briefed on African beliefs about sex, including the myth that sex with a virgin could cure Aids.

Again an appalling Police Prosecution – Charlene suffered horribly from AIDS and it seems the Alabama Christchurch Police Department were the problem and their attempt to connect semen on her underpants to the Father would have scientifically discredited our entire justice system.

STORY 3 – Killing him softly – SST (by the way – 2 pages of news in the HOS is NOT a world section)
Hillary Clinton’s mention of Robert Kennedy’s assassination to explain why she is still in the race is gasp inducing. Latest punts on American election please.

STORY 4 - Bridgecorp chief wants bonus – Weekend Herald
Legal action against Bridgecorp founder Rod Petricevic has begun to try to recover money paid to him in the lead-up to the company's receivership, including a $550,000 performance bonus.
How did he get a $550 000 performance bonus with the company now belly up – How? How? How?

STORY 5 – Drowning in Debt – HOS + 150 000 at risk of losing homes – SST
Both Sunday papers have massive stories on the increasing economic pain, SST looks at the pending mortgagee sales and HOS highlights the credit crises that is seeing a 500% increase in Debt Collector workloads. How is either Party going to handle this and what are the ramifications of a sizeable chunk of NZ going broke?

FINAL WORD – The Phil Goff interview on the Let’s be Frank repeat 10pm tonight – and Dr Pita Sharples next on Lets be Frank Tuesday 8.30pm and I interview Keith Locke on Alt Tvs Environmental and human rights show, Green Core, 8pm Wednesday

I know you tend to get excited, Bomber, but any chance of upping your complete sentence ratio?

155 words before the first full stop during your rant about Damian Christie, and I was out of breath by the time I got to it...

you never fail to amaze me with your one sided, blinkered, narrow view that anthing the police do is wrong. how can you oppose and rubbish the 'right to silence' when it was the murdering pack of kahui bludgers that were responsible for the death of those kids; and then hamstrung the enquiry. now that its over they have come out saying they want someone to pay! typical of these low lifes. when it mattered they didnt have the decency to speak up for the boys; but dont you worry: you can be sure they will talk now about how down trodden, impoverished maori bludgers they are. sickening.

Gwaze: it only became clear later that she had HIV thus initially no one not even the family new she was sick. torn bowel and vagina. says it all, and if you do your homework you will see the specialist has come out saying he was misquoted now.

but hey, it shows the lows this country is stooping to when 2 murderers and aquitted and all you can say is "good job, i knew they weren't responsible".

at least bain is going down again.

ka kite.

He never suggested dawn raids. Of course investment in those communities would be a good thing, but in the meantime maybe the special quota (which no other countries seem to enjoy) should be reviewed?

Greg Clydsdale (same guy) reported last year that low skilled immigration adversely affected Maori. This was supported by Pita Sharples:

“Maori Party co-leader Pita Sharples says unskilled immigrants are competing with Maori for social services.

He’s endorsing the findings of Massey University economist Greg Clydsdale, who claims current immigration policies are bad for Maori.“We are in fact importing now, and 40 percent was the figure, of unskilled people from different ethnic groups and they are going to make it even more difficult for Maori to get state housing, social services and jobs when the squeeze comes on at different times,” Dr Sharples says.”

This is the reason why Bombers voice which once held some promise is fading into oblivion. He's one of the many rather average New Zealanders who reads tabloids such as the SST who not only takes what the reporters in that ridiculous article about George Gwaze is fact but even adds to it.

But hey, I guess when you've already brought into the Chris Kahui is innocent crusade on the basis of the personality assasination conduced on the other animal then I guess independent or intelligent thought shouldn't be expected.

The part that made me laugh most yesterday was when Selwyn described himself as a victim (of sorts) - priceless.

Really Anon - I would love your response to the following points...

By the time Charlene got to a 24-hour accident and medical clinic, she had a temperature topping 40C, a racing pulse over 180, and no recordable blood pressure.
She had lost so much fluid from her blood because of the diarrhoea that she was in what was known as hypovolemic shock. There wasn't enough blood to pump to her brain, causing the oxygen deprivation that was later attributed to suffocation.
Charlene was regularly unwell. She had 20 days off school the year before.
The evening before her collapse an elder at her church noticed she was hot to the touch and was having difficulty with her breathing.
Charlene had contracted HIV at birth from her mother Senzeni who died of HIV-related tuberculosis when Charlene was nearly two. Senzeni's husband Edgar also died of Aids in 2000.
Charlene's "horrific" anal injuries amounted to a series of tiny lateral tears and such fissures have been reported in HIV-Aids patients.
Charlene's older sister Charmaine, 12, had chicken pox a virus that could prove devastating to a child whose immunity was as compromised as Charlene's.
The semen on Charlene's underwear always looked bad for George Gwaze. When the defence raised the suggestion of innocent transfer through the wash, it was easy to see how the first reaction could have been "Yeah, right".
But defence counsel Jonathan Eaton's DNA adviser, Arie Geursen the scientist whose work helped to free wrongly convicted David Dougherty in 1996 was in no doubt, given the other facts of the case, that innocent transfer was the most likely explanation.
The morning Charlene was found near death in her bed, Sifiso had returned home from hospital after being told Charlene was likely to be transferred to Auckland's Starship Children's Hospital. Sifiso rinsed all Charlene's soiled sheets and clothes and threw them in the washing machine. It was from here that police recovered the underwear on which Gwaze's semen was found.
But that morning there was none of George or Sifiso's underwear, which could have been the source of such contamination, in the same wash. So how could semen be transferred? Sifiso's habit was to wash underwear her own and Charlene's, in a hand basin together, or throw them in the machine if there was a full wash.
For Geursen, the contamination theory came down to scientific facts, and the lack of any other evidence of a sexual assault. Gwaze's DNA was not found anywhere else on Charlene, nor Charlene's on him.
The average male produces around 130,000,000 sperm heads in each ejaculation. A peer-reviewed international study has found that cotton underwear retains 43% of the DNA after it's been through each wash. "So you have to do quite a few washes to reduce DNA below the detectability of the tests," he says. That means the contamination could well have occurred in an earlier handwash.
The total DNA sample from Charlene's underpants was the size of about one hundred thousandths of a single grain of sugar. Had Gwaze been convicted, says Geursen, it would have been "a terrible travesty of justice. It would have been science and medicine gone astray".

So the crown is saying Charlene was murdered, in the Gwaze household, at arms length from her sister, but we can't prove beyond all reasonable doubt that George Gwaze did it.

If the defences interpretation is correct, a huge, massive, way over a year long gross injustice has been inflicted on a family suffering from the death of a loved child.

A further step _must_ be taken to establish whether Charlene was murdered on not. If she was, the same situation as in the Kahui case has arisen.

If she wasn't, then restituition, formal apologies and strong action must be taken to prevent good people (the doctors) doing such wrong things.

And perhaps, just maybe, the R(acism) word must be formally raised, dusted off, and inspected to see if it played a role here.

Bomber all you have done is quote and pasted an article from the utterly tabloid sunday star times.

Its written in such a purile emotive style that you would expect in a readers digest of all things, not a major newspaper.

I wouldn't expect more than you because it reflects your view on the world, one of a not overly bright person who is content to let tabloid journalism direct his view of life.

Ummmmmmmm - okay, if it's just 'utterly' tabloid (do you know what a tabloid means by the way, because the SST would be the least likely to be called that) - if it's just 'utterly' tabloid, it should be very easy to disprove all of what they wrote, I'm waiting for you to disprove the medical element of their article - because all you are doing is shooting the messenger (the utterly tabloid SST) and refusing to debate the message - which sounds like the exact same thing the very dim south isalnd cops did. I'm still waiting for you to disprove what the SST said.

Ahhh, the anonymous posters are alwyas the most charming aren't they - not at all Anon, I've never liked Damian all the way back to when he and I were at Uni, my criticism of him last week was that on the Monday he was mouthing off against Alt Tv current affairs when the next day we dominated the headlines.

damian is right, the audio mix is absolute shit.

Hey we are investing as fast as the compnay is growing and the early interviews Damian was commenting on certainly had sound issues - we've since bought new equipment and are about to purchase new cameras as well. Thank you for your concern.

Bomber explain the injuries to Charlenes hymen, described as being consistent with penetration or attempted penetration.

Explain how the so-called South African expert who the defense claimed said that he had seen such symptoms in aids victims before also said after reviewing Charlenes photos that it appeared more likely to be consistent with sexual violation and suffocation but that he wanted more time to examine further information - a move opposed by the Defense denying the prosecution attempt to adjourn the trial.

Explain how the pathologist and all the doctors who examined her believed it was a sexual assault, and really do you believe as Eaton suggested that her anal injuries were just from passing really solid stools (funny given that she had diarehea at the time). Explain why you believe some DNA scientist over the pathologist?

Also explain why her family never got her any treatment or even told medical professionals she had aids in the 2 or so years she was in this country.

Pick your causes Bomber.
