Stupid Flags

Flags are stupid, they seem to cause so much anger and isn't our desire to fight for our flag as stupid as gang members who fight for their colors? Take this whole Maori flag on the Harbour Bridge business, should the bridge authorities fly the Maori flag on Waitangi day? Of course they should have, it is disingenuous in the extreme to all our collective intelligences that in an attempt to justify their decision, they try and invoke some ridiculous claim regarding only soverign nations can fly their flag over the bridge. The problem with their bullshit reasoning is that they themsleves have broken that protocol several times before (flying the scottish flag and the welsh flag), they've done it again by flying the European Union flag, to turn down the Maori flag just looks spiteful.

Flags are really stupid.

Maori Party MP Hone Harawira says he is appalled that Transit allowed the European Union flag to fly on Auckland Harbour bridge. "I'm referring this to the Race Relations Office," said Mr Harawira. "It's an insult to Maori, and an insult to the intelligence of all New Zealanders. "Transit can't say that we won't fly your [Maori] flag because it doesn't represent a country, and then go and fly another one that doesn't represent a country. "It's hypocritical. Heads must roll." The flag flew yesterday, in recognition of Europe Day. The observance was requested by the European Commission delegation to New Zealand. Generally, Transit considers requests from nations wanting to commemorate their country's national day, but Transit regional manager Peter Spies said yesterday that the criteria also included flags recognised by the New Zealand Government. As the European Union flag had in the past flown from government buildings, the policy was being adhered to. In February, Maori sovereignty group Ata Tino Toa sought permission from Transit to fly the red, black and white tino rangatiratanga flag from the bridge to commemorate Waitangi Day. Their request was denied, and Mr Spies said there had been no change in policy that would allow the tino rangatiratanga flag on the bridge in future.

I'm not sure we should blame the flags, after all they're an inanimate object ... I think we should blame the racists at Transit who want to ignore the Maori sovereignty of this country.

It might seem stupid if you think the values of the NZ flag and the values of your local gang are equivalent. But I don't. The best NZ values eg. democracy, secularity, freedom of speech / religion, equality of gender / sexuality etc. are most definitely are worth fighting for. The right to sell drugs outside the local school isn't quite up there.

Yes Transit's excuse is disingenuous but so are you by talking about the "Maori flag". The controversy is because it is a Maori sovereignty flag. A lot of Maori do not even support the concept of separate sovereignty. It's not even clear what the flag really means because "Maori sovereignty" means different things depending on who you talk to. With the most extreme interpretations the two flags would seem to be antithetical.

I have just received my second letter from Tim in jail still, and I do support him as well;but I don't quite believe the good intentions of the likes of Chen and Palmer and co. getting rid of the Sedition laws.Speaking as a person who intends to be the P.M myself one day,as soon as I can beat the second Trespass notice issued by THE STUDENT UNION, of course.Just a hint of self preservation you understand Bomber and nothing against your good friend Tim who sounds well even though they moved him to another prison and my letter took a few weeks to get to him.He told me to keep an eye on you by the way.Only joking mate!

The Maori Flag thing is a huge f*&% up. It is not the Maori flag at all but instead is the flag of the Honewera Tribe. He himself said that on Newstalk ZB. It was his family that promoted it. So like all this secular Maori bullshit, of course it should NOT be flown it is after all the flag of a protest movement and not OUR flag.
Cheers

Have you asked Transit if they'll let the 1835 Sovereignty Flag fly on the bridge Hated? Maybe if you'd got in first instead of the letting the Harawira mafia screw it up for the rest of you, you might have had a chance.

P.s. do you use a small flag for wiping your arse, because I imagine it would be a bitch of a job flushing a full size flag down the loo.

Kingi Taurua already made the request for the 1835 Maori flag to be flown up there and it was rejected... you need to check all of the facts Anon before you make these comments... as the saying goes "been there done that"

as for the loo and NZ snot rag you call a flag.. dont know what that was about, was there a point to the flag flush loo caper?

I 6think you need to stop sniffing glue and chill out homeboy, The was no harbour bridge to fly the flag on in 1835, check you own facts fool! (not that that particular fact should require much checking...)

"you cant try and add your 2 cents worth of crap to prove nothing...." Au contraire bro, I just did.

When you Maori stop squabbling with each other and start working together, put all of your petty ancient tribal differences behind you, you might just start achieving something - whatever you decide that you collectively want. I woulnd't hold my breath though Hated, we both know that will NEVER happen.

"as for the loo and NZ snot rag you call a flag.. dont know what that was about, was there a point to the flag flush loo caper?"
I thought it was pretty obvious what I was getting at - you said you wipe your arse on the flag, I assume you put that down the loo, thats what most people do with what ever it is they have wiped their bums with, you do something different though?

Hated your best mate bomber?
It is the only reason I can come up with for why you allow his racist drivel to be posted.

Have you noticed that all the regular posters have disappeared, leaving you with hated.

People don't like to be abused on a discussion board, so if you want reasoned debate, either censor hated like you censor us, or watch your blog disappear.

I know you wont publish this, but you will read it, so please, either stop the abuse from hated, or allow people to respond to hated, but to censor one and not the other completely negates your position to free speech.

So street smart that you thought there was a harbor bridge back in 1835. It would take a whole lot more than the incoherent ramblings of a racist who is stuck in the dark ages to wound my massive ego bro.

I have to comment on you last post as it is only twice you have raised this issue with me, so how do you say, "lets nip it in the bud " shall we.... hey goes..Ahem.... Anon are you deaf aswell as thick... Where did I say that there was a harbor bridge in 1835? please run back through the posts and point it out...
But the fact you cant find fault from the words of a uneducated, poor spelling with even poorer gammar... must hurt...

But as for me being being a racist lol thats sweet, how did I get a title such as this? was because I called you a Pakeha? maybe it is cause I said you are a colonial RUG RAT? all true, isn't it?

I love it when Paheka come on and add there 2 cents of crap about Maori's without checking anything... shows just how ignorant your true are...yet most(not all) have this stereo type idea of us all, yet we are not all the same.

... now while we are growing into bigger kids and Bomber is busy working hard and has his back turned, I would like to kick some more sand into big open mouth, so whats next... Anon

But swing things back to the topic, Why is it a big deal to the govt or transitNZ or any other oppossing paheka to raise our flag on the harbor bridge or anywhere else in Aoteroa for that mater Anon.. you call me racist.. I learn well.....
