NEWSFLASH: A GLIMMER OF HOPE?

Israel has announced it is suspending Lebanon air strikes for 48 hours to investigate the horrific air strike in Qana that has killed 34 children.

Dozens killed in Lebanon air raid
BBC
More than 54 civilians, at least 34 of them children, have been killed in a town in south Lebanon in the deadliest Israeli strike of the conflict so far.

Displaced families had been sheltering in the basement of a house in Qana, which was crushed after a direct hit.
Lebanon's prime minister denounced "Israeli war criminals" and cancelled talks with the US secretary of state.
Israel said it regretted the incident - but added that civilians had been warned to flee the village.
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Israel would "continue to act with no hesitation against Hezbollah" which has been firing rockets into Israel from southern Lebanon.

IS this a chance for a permanent ceasefire? Can Israel be pulled back from this madness?

Prior to this recent debacle, Hizbullah was largely attacking the occupied sheeba farms. It was humiliating for the Israeli government. Olmert is part of the new civilian leadership- as oppose to the military leadership of the past. He wants to prove himself. To show just because he lacks a military background, doesn't mean he's weak. The assaults on Lebanon made this point. He won't back down easily.

As for the permanent ceasefire- an ISRAELI investigation into the incident will result in nothing. Wonder how they'll explain the routes opened up for civilians to flee have been targeted frequently by Israelis. Collateral damage?

1, In world war two did the Germans stop bombing London because civilians were dieing?

2, If your at high school and there is a kid twice your size... Is it wise to go and pull his hear knowing he could beat you to a bloody pulp ?

The answer to both of these is No.

fact 1 in war people die!
fact 2 if you don't wont people to die, don't go to war.

I don’t think Israel should be bombing Lebanon. Do I think they are to blame for the death in Lebanon? Id say the blame is 20% Israel’s for going over the top and 80% Hezbollah’s for being so utterly stupid for attacking a superior military force and using civilians as human shields. They need to stand up and take responsibility for what they are inflicting on there own country.

Only a rogue nation like israel gets away with 39 direct violations of the UN treaty from unlawfull abductions, public assasinations, invading soveign nations, wiping out entire generations of civilans under the pretends of fighting terror (who is the terror now?), merciless bombing of UN vehicles, ambulances, killing of innocent women n children ... no wonder they are still at war after 50 years.

We must be mad for allowing this to happen.

as per usual glossing over the truth aye bomber?? did you convinently forget to mention that hizbollah were using the attacked building to launch missiles? or that it was being used as a munition store? how about hizbollah attacks on haifa?? murder or tactical attacks?? Until hizbollah stop their deadly tactic of using civilian infrastructure in densely populated areas to wage their war then any israeli attack will end in civilian losses. its a lose lose situation. israel sit back and face humiliating attacks by the initial aggressor or fight back and face civilian loss because of hizbollah tactics. remember, hizbollah is as guilty if not more guility in this conflict, something you need to remember before extracting the sob stories out of the media to reinforce your cause.

To the anonymous second poster. Your logic is impeccable. Just carry it to the next step. If the school bully is going to beat you to a pulp anyway, no matter what you do, it is not a bad idea to kick him where it hurts. Read www.bidstrup.co./zionism.htm and visit www.bitselem.org then come back. It is actually a bit of a buzz to have all your preconceived notions crumble before your eyes.

..................................It looks like that glimmer of hope has burnt out - back to the war today - lets hope those smart bombs don't act so dumb - I wonder when I will have to start putting up with postings on this site from people arguing that Israel HAS to attack Syria for its own defence.

Funny how it's always the strong who have to attack the weak "for their own defense"
