Our glorious constitution

The parliamentary select committee looking into our vague constitution has set up their website. My contribution must be somewhere here .

There's only twenty on there at the moment so my submission represents the views of 5% of the population. (It must be higher than that in reality?) Someone must tell those bloody judges that submitting stuff they have already written or summarising stuff with no opinion is really rather slack.

What a bunch of cranks, nutters, waffflers and cynics. One raving Christian even questions the temporal authority of the uppity select committee to even pose the question. Just the responses they deserve. Happy reading Mr Dunne.

Dr Noel Cox (who is Chairman of the Monarchist League) has written a very good, albeit long submission. His points are the usual pro-monarchy nonsense, although he does spin an interesting line on the relationship of 'the Crown' in the Treaty of Waitangi.

The Herald article says there were only 48 submissions! So each one is worth c. 2%. Remarkably low, and I suspect, a reflection of the confidence people have in this process. If I'd have known how few submissions there were I would have dedicated some more time to it - less vitriolic, more specific ideas on our Treaty, more focus on a Bill of Rights etc. I still have to read Sir Ross Jansen's tome and our good friend Dr Cox's humble submission.
